In year 7 and 8 learners are following a two year foundation GCSE curriculum. In both years learners receive 4 lessons of mathematics and are set two pieces of homework per week using the MyMaths website plus a research project. Within the maths faculty we have a dedicated teaching assistant who works with particular classes to offer additional support both emotionally and academically.
Years 9 and 10 follow a two year GCSE curriculum. If learners have successfully gained a secure knowledge at foundation level they will progress on to the higher tier which allows teaching of skills up to grade 9 and for learners who have not mastered the skills at foundation level they will repeat a two year foundation course will teaches skill up to grade 5.
In year 11 all learners will further consolidate skills already taught and follow a more personalised curriculum to address individual needs to ensure they are fully prepared and confident to complete the Mathematics GCSE. Each learner will sit 3 examinations lasting 90 minutes, the first is a non-calculator paper and the second and third are calculator papers.
All Year 9-11 learners receive 4 hours of mathematics per week and homework is set regularly each week.
We aim for our learners to leave The Grange School with a confidence and love of mathematics that will help them to be successful in real-life situations and in their future careers.
